What the discount does

Profit per sale with the discount

  • Sale price–

  • Extra sales needed for the same profit–
  • Deepest discount before you lose money–

How It Works

A discount comes straight out of your profit, because your costs stay the same. Only the percentage fee gets a little smaller.

Profit = price − (production + packaging + shipping + fixed fee) − price × fee %

To earn the same total profit with a discount, you need full-price profit ÷ discounted profit times as many sales. That’s the “extra sales” number.

Use Discounts on Purpose

A launch offer or a seasonal sale can be worth it, as long as you know the cost. Pick a discount your margin can handle, set an end date, and check whether it actually brought in enough extra orders.
